Course Introduction

This 40hrs (Lectures + hands-on Lab) F5 training is targeted to engineers and technical personnel involved in in increasing an application’s operational efficiency and ensures peak network performance by providing a flexible, high-performance application delivery system. With its application-centric perspective, LTM optimizes your network infrastructure to deliver availability, security, and performance for critical business applications. An LTM Specialist must be proficient with all aspects Architecture, Setup and Deployment of the LTM within a network
The key to a high success rate is based on the program’s objectives as follows:

  • Course contents are based on F5 course outlines.
  • Dedicated Monitoring to evaluate and report candidates progress
  • Extensive hands-on lab exercises
  • Industry acclaimed, experienced and certified instructors
Course Highlights
  • Project manager can be assigned to track candidates’ performance
  • Curriculum based on course outlines defined by Cisco.
  • This Instructor-led classroom course is designed with an aim to build theoretical knowledge supplemented by ample hands-on lab exercises
  • Facility of Lab on cloud available (based on booking)
  • Courseware includes reference material to maximize learning.

Course Objectives
  • Create a BIG-IP LTM configuration/design to deliver applications in a scalable, highly available, and redundant environment to meet customer specifications.
  • Create application-specific monitors.
  • Select and configure the most appropriate load balancing (LB) method based upon the application requirements and server capabilities.
  • Determine when to use secure network address translation (SNAT) and when not to use SNAT.

· Identify and define the components of TMOS.
· Log into a device and look at logs.
· Troubleshoot basic network issues.
· Create a problem statement.
· Understand client-server networking.
· Know common HTTP error codes.
· Describe basic differences between public vs. private cloud.

  • Know common application service ports.
  • Enable a virtual server that has already been defined.
  • Locate where iRules are facilitated within QKView.
  • Use QKView troubleshooting tools
Course Topics

This course is created to understanding of underlying principles—from Secure Sockets Layer-based (SSL) Virtual Private Network (VPN) implementation to symmetric and asymmetric acceleration—and can draw on that insight to integrate BIG-IP LTM into existing networks as well as new implementations.

Section 1: Architect an application

  • Given an expected traffic volume, determine the appropriate SNAT configuration
  • Given a scenario, determine the minimum profiles for an application
  • Given an application configuration, determine which functions can be offloaded to the LTM device
  • Given an application configuration, determine which functions can be offloaded to the LTM device
  • Given an application configuration, determine the appropriate profile and persistence options
  • Explain the steps necessary to configure AVR
  • Given a set of reporting requirements, determine the AVR metrics and entities to collect
  • Given a scenario, determine the appropriate monitor type and parameters to use
  • Given a set of parameters, predict an outcome of a monitor status on other LTM device objects
  • Given a set of SSL requirements, determine the appropriate profile options to create or modify in the SSL profile
  • Given a set of application requirements, describe the steps necessary to configure SSL
  • Given a set of application requirements, determine the appropriate virtual server type to use
  • Given a set of application requirements, determine the appropriate virtual server configuration settings
  • Explain the matching order of multiple virtual servers
  • Given a scenario, determine the appropriate load balancing method(s)
  • Explain the effect of LTM device configuration parameters on load balancing decisions

Section 2: Set-up, administer, and secure LTM devices

  • Distinguish between the management interface configuration and application traffic interface configuration
