Introduction

The Arista Networking - Routing Engineering course is designed for network engineers, service provider technicians, and IT specialists in telecom or enterprise settings who manage WAN configurations and troubleshooting. It is especially valuable for professionals with prior knowledge of routing protocols like BGP or IS-IS, those transitioning to Arista from other vendors, and individuals involved in data center interconnect initiatives.

This course delivers a thorough overview of MPLS WAN technologies and segment routing architectures, progressing through comprehensive lessons on MPLS fundamentals, Layer 2/3 VPNs with EVPN and BGP, RSVP-TE tunnels, segment routing setups, traffic engineering, and SR-WAN with DCI.

Key areas of expertise you will develop include:

  • MPLS Fundamentals: Understand MPLS labels, packets, devices, LDP sessions, control plane and data plane tables, penultimate hop popping, and troubleshooting basics.
  • Layer 2 VPN Services: Configure VPNs with VRFs, E-Line services with LDP pseudowires, EVPN (VPWS, L2EVPN, L3EVPN), and Ethernet VPN implementations.
  • Layer 3 VPN with BGP: Implement BGP as PE-CE protocol, configure overlapping VPNs, shared service VPNs, and managed service VPNs.
  • MPLS Tunnels: Deploy RSVP-TE tunnels with explicit paths, tunnel protection, FRR (Fast Reroute) with facility bypass, and admin-groups.
  • Segment Routing: Master SR fundamentals, LDP vs SR transitions, SR traffic engineering with IS-IS, SR-TE policies, and color steering.
  • SR-WAN and DCI: Implement MPLS Inter-AS deployment, L2/L3 connectivity over MPLS-SR WAN, and DCI with EVPN VXLAN and MPLS-SR.

Upon completion, participants can take an optional 4-hour practical exam to earn the Arista Networking Specialist - Routing Engineering certification. Achieving this along with the Routing Edge certification grants the Arista Networking Professional - Routing certification.
